So disappointed…

05 Feb

I tore my rotator cuff in my right shoulder.

I went to the doctor today for my neck procedure (which I have done every six months but I recently really injured all this on the driving range after the instructor changed my swing). They did 4 vertebra today. I’ll feel much better in 3 weeks.

But the news about the rotator cuff was not what I wanted to hear:

No golf, tennis, basketball, arm machines at the gym and no sleeping on my right side for one year. The reason being is that when you think this has healed and you try to resume activities, people almost always end up with a worse tear because it hasn’t quite healed all the way and it can take a really, really long time to heal.

That news just removed most of my weekend activities. I’ve been in sports all my life but I’ve always been fragile and prone to injury because I am small and delicate. It’s hard to believe I played 11 years of basketball but I had quite the list of injuries from it.

So I am allowed to walk, swim, treadmill. I’m going to have to use my pool more.

I have to do something to cheer myself up. So I decided that every Sunday (once the weather is a little warmer) I am going to the park across the street. I will walk the trails. I ordered a picnic basket and waterproof blanket so then I can have lunch in the park, take a book and a beach chair and relax after lunch. The park even allows wine so if I want a glass on wine on Sunday, I can take some with me. In the spring, it will be warm enough to do the same and have dinner on the beach.

I have to come up with substitute activities.

I’m still disappointed. This does interfere with my sleep. It’s not comfortable.

I’ll make do.
